Learning to Recoil: A Workshop for Runners
by Kate Kruuse and Ralph Havens
This workshop is for both amateur and professional runners who want to improve their biomechanics and efficiency. You will learn various tools to immediately improve your running form and endurance. Including:
- What recoil is and how to use it to generate lift.
- How to increase stride length without over-striding.
- How to use minimal expenditure of energy.
- Simple effective exercises and drills to immediately improve running form.
- Workshop includes: Postural analysis, Running position tips, Running analysis, Drills, and Pilates exercises for improved postural endurance.

More Info
Most of us know that world class runners (sub 13 minute 5 k runners) and local fast men and women (say 15 minute to 18 minute or so ) even most local runners who have been running for years all have the same frequency, about 95 cycles per minute).
Stride length is the difference. so why is it you should not overstride? and if it is just a matter of stide length is the difference strength.? And if it is strength, then why are the world class guys all skinny with little muscle mass. and why is the 5k and 10k world record holder only 5'4 tall if it is just stride length?
The difference is their ability to recoil or load up the body like a spring and get alot of their stride length 'for free'. just slow motion Haile Gebreselasie in the movie Endurance and watch the recoil with each step.
This class will show you some principles of running biomechanics, many of which are exactly opposite of what you may have been taught for years, and how to use these principles to get some of this recoil, using drils, specific running form, exercises and pilates movements.
