Leg and Knee Pain

Knee Pain

I cannot thank you enough for the miracle you performed by heeling my knee. I had never been to a physical therapist before and assumed I could rehabilitate my knee on my own. Why not? I am a very active person who runs, works out, and swims on a regular basis. What a disaster that was! It did not take me long to realize my efforts were making the matter worse, not better.

Each step I took was agonizing and I feared I was going to have to live with the pain for the rest of my life. I finally came to my senses and called Mission Hills Physical Thrapy for help. My leg was so swoller that I could barely bend it, let along stand on it. After just a few sessions my knee began to feel normal and before I knew it, I was able to start exercising again.

I especially want to thank Kanoe, Sally and Danielle. Although I primarly saw Kanoe, everyone involved in my rehabilitation was on the same page. The didcation to detail, the knowledge and professionalism each of them exhibited at every appointment was top notch. I'm a huge advocate of Mission Hill PT and wish all of you well.

Meniscus Tear

When I began physical therapy in October, 2007, it was to regabiliate my knee. It late August, I tore the meniscus in my left knee. An arthroscopic procedure was the next step if it didn't heal. I asked to try IMT at Mission Hills Physical Therapy. After several weeks of therapy with Danielle, I can say my knee is pain-free - I can actually bend down! I will continue my exeercise homework to keep my knee strong - I don't want that injury again!

Knee Pain from Tennis

I began my physical therapy March 8. 2007 because I experienced pain in my knees, mostly left knee. The knee problem was due, I believe, to my playing tennis for 65 years.

I believe my knee pain is much less and I am more able to walk ore comfortably and efficiently. Integrative Manual Therapy is a wonderful way to improve one's health. As a result I believe other parts of my body function better.

Mission Hills Physical Therapy is an excellent place to go to not only because of its IMT approach and connection with gluten-free food, but because of all individuals who do the physical therapy there. They are outstanding team members.

Thank you for your contribution towards better health for me.

Sincerely

Knee Pain in a Runner

I wanted you to know how pleased I am with the treatment I received for my knee. I started seeing you a few months before the San Diego Marathon because I was having so much knee pain and I could no longer train. In fact, I sometimes had difficulty walking. I am convinced that it was because of your treatment I was able to complete the marathon, and I am pleased to report that I continue to run with virtually no knee pain. I had been having problems with my knee for over two years after an injury. Initially, I used sports massage to treat the knee, but when massage helped at all, the relief from massage never lasted more than a few days. I was part of an HMO, and my internist sent me to an orthopedist who took x-rays and said that I have arthritis. She referred me to a conventional physical therapist. The results were better than massage, although the treatment was more painful. I changed health plans, and my doctor referred me to a different orthopedic surgeon. After an examination and an MRI, the surgeon determined that I had a toen medial meniscus and recommended surgery. I was reluctant to have surgery, especially because the surgeon said that he could tell neither how how much meniscus he would need to remove nor if I would be able to continue running post surgery. I continued to try running, but many days I was unable to run due to pain, and I even walked with a limp. When I moved to San Diego, I established a relationship with a new physician. We discussed my knee problem, and he referred me to you for physical therapy. I was familiar with physical therapy, and wasn't optimistic, but decided to give it one more try before I resorted to surgery. I was unfamiliar with Integrative Manual Therapy (IMT), your approach to physical therapy. Intially, I was unsure about your approach because there was not the intense pain I had learned to associate with therapy, but I decided to stick with the treatment. Instead of the immediate short-term improvement followed by a return to the same old knee pain, there was gradual improvement that lasted. After about four weeks, I was running pain free. I continued to see you for another month and you released me from treatment. Now, over eight months later, I continue to run without knee pain. I am very pleased that I did not have to resort to surgery and would comfortably recommend you and IMT over traditional therapy. Please feel free to share this note with any prospective clients.

Chronic Knee and Leg Pain

When I first come to Mission Hills Physical Therapy there was continuous pain in numerous areas of the body. Damage from the two total left knee replacements caused broken bones in knee area, extensive nerve damage, inability to walk properly and 50% blockage of blood flow from knee to toes. Scoliosis and stenosis of left lower back has caused very painful muscle spasms and curved spine. The therapist, Ralph Havens has very patiently worked with me at the office as well as given a number of exercises to do daily at home. He has made a remarkable improvement in the pain, balance, and mobility for which I am thankful. Better balance and strength in the left leg and foot greatly helps short distance walking and climbing a few steps. I am also sleeping better. Hopefully the therapy will also help the blood flow and nerve damage in the left leg as well as other things that are painful. Many thanks to Ralph who is doing an unbelievable good job. Gladys Ramsey Dated: 08/05 Knee Pain Dear Danielle: I want you to know how much I appreciate the excellent treatment I received from you. Your knowledge and expertise combined with your high spirits made you fun to be around as well as a powerful motivator. When I first came to Mission Hills Therapy one month ago, I could barely walk. My right knee was locked and it was very painful. Going up and down the stairs was difficult. My pain was so great I was unable to sleep through the night and this affected my energy level. Not only were you able to identify my problem, you were able to help me feel better the first day. I am very grateful. You, Ralph and the entire staff at Mission Hills Therapy have created a truly healing environment. Just walking in the door is uplifting. So, I am really not surprised that after only eleven treatments I have graduated. Most importantly, you gave me a home exercise program to make sure I maintain and continue to improve my strength and flexibility. You are welcome to share my success story with others and use my name if it would be helpful.

Very best,

Leg and Lower Joint Pain

I am please to be able to say that my time with Mission Hills Physical Therapy has been valuable and has given me the knowledge, tools, and motivation to continue focusing on my overall heath and well being in a way that I had not experienced prior to working with Danielle and the upbeat staff. I have always considered my self a healthy, active, and happy person; I had few complaints, had good genes, and a terrific marriage. Ten years ago I retired from a 27 year banking career, in which I had experienced a great deal of stress and long hours over the last five years. During that time I had gained a significant amount of weight, had ignored symptoms I should have heeded, and neglected a badly arthritic knee and foot. I realized at that time that I needed to make some substantial changes in my life, and began the process of healthy change. Finally, in 2004, I had a knee replacement, which literally gave me life. I was ecstatic afterwards! What a difference. But the years of my body compensating for terrible body alignment and a compromised gait, showed me that the replacement was not the panacea that I'd hoped for. I ended up having my left foot re-built in April of 2006. I hadn't worn shoes for over three years and with the quick recovery of my knee replacement surgery, I had expected the same dramatic result in my foot recovery (even though to be fair, my surgeon said it would take 8 months). I started a great eating plan and lost 40 pounds, but there were still nagging and irritating symptoms that I couldn't seem to eliminate. I went to my primary care physician in October with three major complaints: I was having painful headaches every day - sometimes two or three, my legs and lower joints were always sore and the tissues of my extremities even seemed to be painful; and thirdly, my foot didn't seem to be healing as I'd expected, so I was still limping and was afraid that I would prolong the damage to the rest of my body as it again tried to compensate for my painful foot. He recommended Mission Hills Physical Therapy and I started treatments the following week. I am joyfully writing this testament three months later - headache free. My left foot is stronger and my gait has improved dramatically. The aches in my body still come and go, but now I have greater control over their existence. I have also seen improvement in other areas of my health and in personal choices that I had not anticipated. The time spent with Mission Hills helped me to focus on my diet, my thoughts, my activity level, and my expectations. Danielle was there to talk with and together we keyed in on health areas that I hadn't discussed with anyone else. Today I feel that I have the tools to maintain and monitor these aspects of my well being and have added a new kind of meditation to my daily routine. I am so much more active, feel less pain, and am happy with the results of my time with Danielle. Today I feel like I'm in greater control of my physical circumstances and have made changes to my life that are going to help me as I age - with gusto and grace! Thank you, Danielle!

Knee Pain

I came in limping and for two days I experienced terrible pain in my right knee. The only other time I had such pain I had had surgery on my left knee. Cathie, within a space of one hour, God bless her, I don't know what she did but the pain was gone and as if it had never been there in the first place. I am grateful and thankful. Hristo Yaneff Dated: 03/30/07 Chronic Knee Pain I came here for chronic knee pain, with the possibility of surgery looming if the physical therapy was not successful. After (roughly) 6 weeks of therapy, my knees are 90% better. I can do more for longer periods of time (walking, biking, taking stairs), and much of the time I am close to or fully pain free. As an added benefit, even thought I have been living with nagging low back discomfort for so long that I’ve forgotten what pain free felt like, my back is now more flexible and fully pain-free. Danielle's great!!!!
